On the last day of the year 2006, the Nuggets dropped a game at home vs. the Dallas Mavericks, 89-85. It was a close game, until the Nuggets suffered a fourth quarter collapse and went on to lose the game. Neither team shot well from the floor, but Dallas went +12 in the rebounding column, in which I believe that that is the biggest reason why they won the game (other than the fact that Josh Howard had an outstanding game). Dirk Nowitzki also did not play due to a sinus infection, but Nuggets center Marcus Camby made his return.
.
For Dallas, once again, Josh Howard was outstanding. He shot the ball extremely well and owned the boards. Howard finished with a great stat line of 28 points, 17 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocks. Jason “The Jet” Terry also had a nice offensive game, finishing with 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists. Young guard Devin Harris scored 16 and dished 5 assists, Erick Dampier blocked 4 shots, and Greg Buckner chipped in 11 points off the bench.
.
For Denver, AI was certainly “The Answer,” but it wasn’t enough to win the game. Iverson finished with 28 points, 8 assists, and an eye-popping 7 steals. Nuggets center Marcus Camby made his return to the lineup, and returned as his old self posting 13 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 blocks. Earl Boykins continued his scoring streak, as he had a 20 point night off the bench once again. Everybody’s favorite role player, Eduardo Najera, also had an excellent all-around game, ending the game with 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists.
