VIDEO: Kyrie Irving's Coast-To-Coast…

Read More: Kyrie Irving (G – CLE), Cleveland Cavaliers, Denver Nuggets, Cleveland Cavaliers at Denver Nuggets, Mar 7, 2012 8:00 PM CST

Rookie Kyrie Irving provided his third game-winning shot of the season for the 14-win Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night against the Denver Nuggets.

With the Cavs down one, Irving took the ball after the inbounds with about 12 seconds remaining in the game. Irving then took it coast-to-coast and finished with a cool and collected up-and-under reminiscent of a wily veteran guard, not a 19-year-old kid.

Here’s video via CBS Sports:

Irving’s game-winning layup helped the Cavs snap a six-game losing streak. He scored 14 of his 18 points in the game in the second half — 10 of those points coming in the final three minutes of the game.

Kyrie Irving helps Cavaliers edge Nuggets

DENVER — Kyrie Irving hit a driving layup with four seconds left to cap a seesaw battle in the final minutes and the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Denver Nuggets 100-99 on Wednesday night.

Irving scored 10 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter, all in the last 2:36 of the game, and Antawn Jamison had 33 to help the Cavaliers snap a six-game skid.

Al Harrington had 22 points and Andre Miller 16 for the Nuggets, whose four-game win streak ended.

Neither team could pull away in the fourth quarter. Denver scored the first six points to go ahead 78-76 and the lead changed hands nine times in the final 2:36, with the point guards staging a personal duel down the stretch.

Ty Lawson had five of his 18 points to give Denver a 95-94 lead and Irving had two three-point plays and a driving layup to put Cleveland up 98-97 with 24 seconds left.

He saved his best for the final seconds.

After Nene muscled in a layup over rookie Tristan Thompson with 15 seconds left to give Denver a 99-98 lead, Irving took the inbounds pass in the backcourt, raced up the floor into the lane and made the go-ahead basket. After a timeout, Lawson got the ball and drove the lane but missed a layup at the buzzer.

The game was tied in the third quarter before Alonzo Gee scored the next seven points to give Cleveland a 72-65 edge. The Cavs led by four heading into the fourth after Daniel Gibson’s 3-pointer was ruled after the horn.

Gee finished with 19.

Jamison was the biggest reason for Cleveland leading 57-55 at the break. The forward scored 14 in the first quarter to keep the Cavaliers close, then had 12 more in the second when they overcame a nine-point deficit.

Trailing 41-32, Jamison hit two jumpers and a pair of free throws to get the margin to 45-42 midway through the second. Gee tied it with a layup, Anthony Parker hit a 3 and Jamison scored four more points during a 23-8 run that gave Cleveland a 55-49 lead.

Harrington had 12 points off the bench to lead Denver in the first half.

Nuggets Vs. Cavaliers Score Update: Denver Behind…

Read More: Antawn Jamison (F – CLE), Cleveland Cavaliers, Denver Nuggets

Still in search of their fifth straight win, the Denver Nuggets can’t seem to find footing on their home floor tonight and trail Cleveland 76-72 after three quarters at the Pepsi Center. Also looking to avoid a seven-game skid of their own, the Cavaliers, despite being 13-23 on the road this season, are doing an admirable job of showing their resiliency away from home.

The Nuggets have turned in a woeful 4-for-16 shooting performance from the three-point line thus far, and still have not been able to stop Cleveland forward Antawn Jamison, who leads all players with 30 points on 10-of-17 shooting. Jamison has yet to turn the ball over a single time in the game.

Denver guards Arron Afflalo and Ty Lawson are the only two starters in double figures with 13 and 11 points respectively.

Nene, Gallinari back on floor against Kings

DENVER (AP) — The Denver Nuggets had Danilo Gallinari and Nene back on the court against the Sacramento Kings.

Coach George Karl said before the game Monday night he intended to play Gallinari and Nene only limited minutes as they return from injuries.

Gallinari, the team’s leading scorer, missed 13 games with a left ankle sprain, while Nene sat out 10 due to a strained left calf.

The banged-up Nuggets were without versatile swingman Rudy Fernandez (back) and center Kosta Koufos (left knee).

When Gallinari hobbled off the court on Feb. 6, tests revealed a chip fracture in his left foot. But further examinations showed the fracture wasn’t caused by his stumble and may have actually occurred before he joined the NBA in 2008.

The team was 6-7 without Gallinari.

Nuggets crush Blazers, the Heat is on tonight

DENVER (AP) — Ty Lawson’s return to the lineup was just what the ailing Denver Nuggets needed.

There’s more relief right around the corner, too. Lawson had 18 points and nine assists, Kenneth Faried scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and the Denver Nuggets beat the Portland Trail Blazers 104-95 on Wednesday night.

No will be no relief for the Blazers as they face the red-hot Miami Heat tonight in Portland.

Timofey Mozgov had 14 points and nine rebounds and Al Harrington came off the bench to score 13 points and add 10 rebounds for the Nuggets, who ended a two-game skid.

“This win will be very important for us,” Nuggets coach George Karl said. “I think we gained some confidence tonight and hopefully we can build on it by finding a way to win on the road.”

Lawson missed the last two games with a sprained left ankle and quickly made an impact. He scored 11 points in the fourth quarter, including a key 3-pointer late to hold off a surge by Portland.

“I wanted to come out strong and aggressive and show everybody I wasn’t hurt,” he said. “When I attack, other people get open.”

The Nuggets might get even healthier in the next week with the expected returns of Danilo Gallinari and Nene. Gallinari has missed a month with a severely sprained left ankle and Nene has missed 13 games this season with a heel injury and a left calf strain. Reserve guard Rudy Fernandez could return from a strained lower back as early as Friday.

“We’re still hanging in with teams like Oklahoma City, the Clippers, all the top teams and we have three starters hurt,” Lawson said. “Once we get them back, we’re going to be a team everybody’s scared of.”

Lawson return was enough against the Trail Blazers, who have lost nine straight and 16 of 17 in Denver. Their only win in that span came on Dec. 16, 2007.

They didn’t pose much of a threat Wednesday despite 21 points from Jamal Crawford and 20 points and nine rebounds by LaMarcus Aldridge. Their offense wasn’t enough to offset Denver’s 54-36 edge in rebounding, including a 21-11 advantage of the offensive glass.

“We weren’t able to keep their bigs off the boards tonight and enabled those guys to get a lot of second-chance points,” Blazers center Marcus Camby said. “Rebounding is all about effort.”

The Blazers trailed by double digits for most of the game, but cut it to six three times in the final 7:20. Wesley Matthew’s hit a 3-pointer from the corner to trim Denver’s lead to 91-85, the closest the Blazers had been since early in the second quarter.

The teams traded baskets before Lawson’s 3-pointer with 4:09 left made it 101-91.

“When we put him back in in the fourth quarter he made a lot of big shots, he made a big 3,” Karl said.

The Nuggets never trailed and led by 19 in the third quarter before the Blazers got within nine on Crawford’s 3-pointer with 3:45 left in the period. Denver settled down to lead by 14 heading into the fourth.

Portland trailed by five early in the second when Denver went on a 13-2 run to take a 44-28 lead midway through the period.

Crawford got hot and scored 13 points over the next 3:33 to help the Blazers cut the deficit to 53-45 late in the second. Denver closed the half strong, scoring the last nine points to take a 17-point lead into intermission.

“We just got outworked. Right from the start, they outworked us, pounded us on the boards, pounded us in the paint,” Portland coach Nate McMillan said. “They wanted it more. Mentally, we’ve got to get stronger on the road, playing games like this.”

Faried set the tone early, scoring the first four points and hustling for loose balls and rebounds. His first four rebounds were on offense and his steal and windmill dunk gave Denver the lead for good just 1:17 into the game.

“That Faried kid was blocking shots and running down the court, getting layups, playing with a lot of energy and playing with a lot of passion,” Camby said. “That’s something we were lacking tonight.”

Notes: Blazers forward Kurt Thomas left with a mild concussion in the first quarter after getting inadvertently kicked in the head by Faried when he jumped to save a ball from going out of bounds. He did not return. … Denver’s 62 points in the first half were the most given up by Portland this year. … Harrington notched his sixth double-double of the season.
